Indium (In)

Indium (In)

Ultra high purity indium is a type of indium that has a very high level of purity, often 99.9999% or higher. This is achieved through a purification process that removes impurities to a very low level. Ultra high purity indium is often used in the production of high-quality semiconductor materials and devices, as well as in other applications where the purity of the material is critical.

Indium is an n-type dopant, which means it introduces negative charge carriers (electrons) into the material it is added to, making it more conductive. This is useful for creating n-type semiconductors, which are used in electronic devices for their ability to conduct electrical current.

To purify indium to ultra high purity levels, various techniques can be used, including zone refining, chemical purification, and distillation. The purity of the indium can be verified using analytical techniques such as inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) or energy dispersive x-ray spectroscopy (EDS).

There are several types of indium that can be used as a source in MBE systems, including:

    1. Indium metal: This is a solid form of indium that can be evaporated in an MBE system.
    2. Indium compounds: Indium can also be used in the form of compounds such as indium trichloride (InCl3) or indium oxychloride (InOCl). These compounds can be evaporated in an MBE system to deposit indium onto the substrate.
    3. Indium oxide: Indium oxide (In2O3) can be used as a source in MBE systems, either as a solid or as a vapor. It can be evaporated using a resistive heating source or a laser.
    4. Indium telluride: Indium telluride (In2Te3) is a compound that is often used as a source in MBE systems for depositing thin films of tellurium. It can be evaporated using a resistive heating source or a laser.
    5. Indium selenide: Indium selenide (In2Se3) is another compound that is often used as a source in MBE systems for depositing thin films of selenium. It can be evaporated using a resistive heating source or a laser.
